You feel stuck and you sincerely are wanting motivation to be the engine that keeps you going? No doubt about it. But, what if I told you it’s not your motivation that’s lacking.
If you want motivation to be the engine that keeps you going and keeps you on track, look at your scheduling.
Sometimes new clients will accidentally-on-purpose wonder out loud how they can get their motivation back. They’ll ask for suggestions on what to do to get motivated. My first response is simple. I tell them to look at their scheduling.
Here’s the thing. You’ve been ruminating about that goal for a while now. You may have even written it on your to-do list. And, you’ve gone as far as to have scheduled it on your calendar.
BTW, where is that calendar? Can’t remember where that list or calendar is at the moment?
PSST…this just might be the perfect time for you to get the low down on scheduling and how it’s done. This guide has lots of tips that have helped many of my clients, friends and family.
A lot of the time it is a scheduling issue, but, there’s one more thing you should know.
It May Not Be Your Lack Of Motivation That’s The Hold Up
To find out, here are a few questions you can ask yourself that might bring some clarity:
- Is taking the first step the hard part?
- Or is starting the action difficult?
- What is your inspiration to take this on?
Your answers might give you a few new insights. Often times, it’s not really your motivation that is lacking. Stick with me here…it could be that you’re not really inspired to take that step. So rather than wanting motivation to be the engine that keeps you going, let’s walk it back at bit first and see if there’s other things in your way.
After all, studies show that motivation only comes into play after the action has begun. So quit beating yourself up and let’s work on getting inspired.
Where Do Your Goals Live
For you to be inspired to take those first action steps, ones that actually get the ball rolling, your goal must be top of mind.
That’s not so surprising, and you may even say that your goal is front and center. Yet, there seems to be no motivation to get the engine working.
Your goal never gets to fruition. In that case, the next step should really be of interest to you.
Goals Must Claim Value
This steps take a bit more thought.
It’s up to you to determine what the value or importance of that particular goal is to you. Here’s a question: Does it make you sing? If not, maybe its value or importance to you isn’t quite where you thought it was.
Just think for a minute. If your goal aligned with your values, it would actually take on more importance and grow. It would become bigger than day, well, almost.
By placing a value on your goal, you then can rank its importance to you. This is where magic begins.
Clarity Propels Motivation to Be The Engine
Ranking your goal according to its importance to you will bring such clarity, that you’ll then be singing for sure.
The more clarity, the more significance. The more significance it has, the more your energy will be directed towards it.
Here’s where you’ll begin to feel it and see it in your mind’s eye. You’ll begin to anticipate the process of reaching success. And, you’ll certainly be excited about the prospect of accomplishing it.
It’s that kind of clarity that’ll propel you forward. This is what starts to form the motivation that becomes the engine.
But, just in case you’re not quite there yet, here are a few tips to make your starting point a little easier.
TIP: Stop The Circling and Start The Challenging
We tend to over-think a whole lot of things. Perhaps, that’s where you might find yourself right about now. You’re over-thinking this which is making you feel guilty. Pretty soon, you’re going in circles.
Wanting motivation to be the engine to keep you going is like chasing our tails. We ponder and ponder with no answers in sight.
Instead, start looking at some of the self beliefs you hold.
Are there perhaps some long-standing beliefs lurking in the background about what you can and cannot do?
Do you feel so challenged by some things that you’re stopped in your tracks? Does it have you asking if you’ll ever be able to accomplish this?
But, does that mean it’s completely off your plate?
TIP: Broaden Your Scope
Now that you have done some re-evaluation, let’s assume that that goal wasn’t so important to you after all. What you’ve been hanging on to really isn’t as near and dear to your heart as you had once thought.
If so, now’s the time to look for those ideas that you do hold near and dear. And then…
TIP: Allow Creativity to Seep In
Are you thinking in absolutes about how this should work? Have you left any wiggle room in there for other ways for things to happen?
Now is not the time to limit the possibilities.
Let your creativity have a field day. Spend a little more time and imagine other ways that things can be done.
BTW, one of my favorite things to do is to brainstorm the possibilities.
TIP: Be Ready To Learn
Be gracious and humble as some beautiful, new directions start showing up on the horizon. Start with a new attitude and open up with a beginner’s mind.
To get that motivation engine, we have more questioning to do. Look at some situations, behaviors, attitudes that perhaps aren’t serving you. Time to give them the boot?
Maybe it’s time to let go and give yourself the room to take on something new.
TIP: Shift Into The Positive
What is it that you’d really like to do? What’s always been lurking in the back of your mind and for one reason or another, it stays there. Maybe you just haven’t gotten around to it.
Start there. That’s a perfect place to start.
Maybe it’s just plain ole’ time to have some fun. Now, there’s a concept! Make sure fun is on the menu.
TIP: The Pain of Doing Nothing
Generally speaking, people don’t take steps until the pain of not moving is greater than taking the step forward. Sad to say, I find this in fitness all the time.
When you take things for granted, you assume you’ll be able to manifest whenever you want. You’ve done it many times before.
Here’s the rub…when you can’t do something you’ve always done in the past, your impression is that this is a new, ‘all of a sudden’ kind of situation.
But, most of the time this issue has been actually simmering below the surface for some time. You may have, kinda sorta knew it was going to rear up at some point. And now, it has finally decided to do just that.
What was pleasurable has now turned to pain. Darn it! It’s darn inconvenient, to say the least. You have now been brought to the mountain, and you have to find a new way of getting it done.
The Pleasure of Re-Alignment
Here’s what…A goal that has true value and importance to you will automatically climb up on your To-Do list. And, it’s that forward motion that’ll revv up all those good sweet endorphins that we love.
You start to experience the anticipation of success.
And as your process moves you forward, you’ll tick off with glee each of your 1% daily improvements.
It’s that small step of daily improvement that brings success and celebration.
It’s what will re-frame your vision of the future you. Your picture will be much brighter and a game changer.
What you’ll find is that your efforts to realign, reframe and rebuild will be much more pleasurable than you had imagined.
As it turns out, re-alignment isn’t even close to being the inconvenient monster we once dreaded.
Rather, it’s a new found path that’s something bright and exhilarating to look forward to.
Evaluation leads to inspiration. It’s the fuel for motivation to be the engine that keeps you going. It’s what motivates you to keep pumping forward and has you taking on challenges with glee.
But…we’re not done yet!
Hooked By Promises of Tomorrow?
TIP: That old promise of ‘I’ll start tomorrow’ is like jumping into shallow water with both feet and hitting the bottom with a THUD. That excuse is pay dirt for procrastination.
We know full well that there is never a perfect time.
And, it’s showtime, especially for your health and fitness. Time to get real.
TIP: Carve out a moment, start writing down goals. Make a list of what might be holding you back. What challenges you. No more excuses. It’s time to put thought to what you really want.
Clarity’s rising up on the horizon. You’re getting fired up. Endorphins are flowing. Be a real game changer and list out some steps on how to get there.
And just in time, a scheduling hack that will help you do a good job on manifesting your goals.
And, while you’re evaluating, aligning and scheduling, you can start to create a ritual. Here’s video that’ll do just that. It’s only 5 minutes long and short enough to create a ritual. Here’s your 5 Minutes of a Glori-oski workout.
