Okay, so our lives have been literally turned upside down. Redefining the new normal by pivoting your fitness strategy can bring clarity, happiness and health which is crucial to stay strong and healthy. Some, however, may feel like they’re still inverted and that things are closing in. I get it.
I see some family members and friends shaking their heads as they resign to pivot in some direction they’re not real sure of. To them it must feel like throwing spaghetti up against the wall to see what sticks.
In redefining the new normal, my friends and I are getting the hang of doing our happy hours online. Personally, I have to admit that I love being close to home, making my lists, working with clients. And, so, so glad I don’t have to hop into my car to get any of it done.
My clients have been accustomed to online work, so it wasn’t such a big upheaval. Business is working, and with commute time saved, I can add more programs, study new techniques, so we’re loading up.
Just think, if we can all stay safe and healthy, we’ll have one helleva story to tell!
I had my eyes on many places around the globe I wanted to throw myself into. I wanted to experience the culture, the food, the smells, the weather, you know, the whole enchilada.
Okay, so that’s out the window for a while longer…until…oh, who knows? So it just might be time to strategize how I can enjoy those experiences virtually at home.
Re-evaluating and Pivoting Our Strategies
So, even tho my world, as I knew it, had been limited, I can see that choices have expanded into areas I would have never thought of before. It reminds me of going to a restaurant for your favorite meal but it’s sold out. So, you go for something you haven’t tried before.
When you pivot, you might as
well be adventurous because, there’s always a trade off, but the prize may be bigger.
It’s like when we want to set some new goals. We begin to realize, cupping our chin with our hand followed
by a hmmm sound thinking that in order for this to take place, there’s a trade off that has to happen.
We have to venture forward, perhaps into uncharted territory, and be willing to do what we
need to do to get the job done, or to achieve our goal.
Are we really willing to do in order to get?
In order to travel the world, I would need to work, work, work and gather up the coin to finance my goal. In this quest, the trade off shows up with a simple question: how much time do I want to devote in order to achieve my goal?
On the other hand, it can actually be very exciting. We’re on the cusp of a whole new way of doing things. We may even be able to cut down on the neck breaking speed we were traveling before Covid just to git ‘er did.
Bring in the clarity, please
By evaluating and understanding what the trade off is, what it consists of, what we’re willing to do, strategizing our day, our time, our desire, the trade off can be used it as an efficient goal trimming tool.
Because it brings clarity to our selection. It can help us throw out the shiny that don’t really stack up to the value we once thought it held, not to mention that it probably won’t get us where we want to go anyway.
And with SIP, who needs 50 pairs of shoes when there’s nowhere to go? So we cut down, we minimize our lives, our lifestyle and our ‘things’ that require maintenance, time and money.
This goal trade off exercise routine turns out to be a pretty good tool for insight on redefining normal AND designing our next step. It can help us design where we want/need to go next. Who knew!
“The time has come the Walrus said to speak of many things.” Lewis Carroll
Because we know that fitness and health is a process, we also know that it’s not a product that we put up on the shelf and leave it with an occasional dusting and polish applied.
Well, maybe for some, but not you, I know.
And while our efficient goal trimming tool is awesome and particularly helps us when considering a strategy that’s redefining normal for our fitness and health routines, now that gyms are closed, it’s only half the story.
Belonging to an immediate-gratification culture, it’s often the second half of the strategy that gets lost when we’re redefining our direction.
You may not belong to the ‘immediate-gratification culture (me either 😇), but I would bet a dollar to a donut that you belong to a ‘perfectionist’ culture. Fodder for another blog.
And this second strategy is why sometimes (okay, maybe even most of the time), goals wither away without notice.
Time to fall in love
In fitness or anything else, for that matter, falling in love with tiny improvements not only makes us feel really good because we recognize our forward motion, but it gives us that boost that keeps us going.
This is a motivation trick that keeps our Happiness Meter bumping up against the high peg.
And, while things have been compressed to work within four walls, instead of bumping into those four walls, let’s…
…redefine the process
We know that keeping our bodies healthy and happy is crucial to staying safe and strong.
Here’s some tips:
- Set up a system with small doable wins (1% a day equals 365% over a year!!!)
- Do a daily routine (doesn’t have to be long or balls to the walls)…just move
- Make sure you have recovery days locked in
- Keep track of what you’re doing (we can’t improve unless we know where we’ve been)
That way, the Covid 15 (typical 15 pound gain) won’t stop at your house, AND your wins will always be coming in the door instead.
…and pivot our strategy
Before you start putting weight onto your body, whether body weight work or atomic weights, you need to address and unwind some of those aches and pains that have been popping up in order to restore the balance and stability your muscles and joints need to work well together.
…so you can move better, more efficiently and more comfortably
Just because you step into the boat doesn’t mean you’re going anywhere.
- You’ll need the oars (tools) and
- the know-how (a system)
- to row (practice)
Our programs are designed to:
- help figure out where you’re stuck
- guide your next step
- fine tune your movements
- give you tools to holistically address life’s transitions for middle-aged bodies
- so you can age successfully
You’ll be able to enjoy those activities you’ve been putting aside because you’ll soon have a body you can do them well in.
Even while you’re stuck at home, with our virtual programs can help you move your body more and in a comfortable and better way. And, you’ll get the tools you’ll need to know how to live healthy life for a lifetime.
Those four walls will open up to a whole new world.
